Install RK Downloader from a ZIP File
RK Downloader is not listed on the Chrome Web Store. It is distributed as a ZIP package and installed locally through Developer mode.
On an Android phone? Follow the Android guide. iPhone and iPad browsers can't load extensions.
Install in 3 short steps
2Extract the ZIP package
Before ChromeOpen your Downloads folder and extract the file. Chrome needs the folder inside, not the ZIP file.
3Add it to Chrome
Open Chrome's extension settings and load the folder you just extracted.
- Open
chrome://extensions - Turn on Developer mode (top-right).
- Click Load unpacked and choose the extracted folder.
Choose the extracted folder that contains manifest.json, not the ZIP file.
RK Downloader is now installed. Pin it from the puzzle-piece menu so it stays in your toolbar.
Why is the extension installed from a ZIP file?
The Chrome Web Store restricts downloader extensions, so RK Downloader is distributed as a ZIP package and loaded locally through Developer mode. Only download the package from rkdownloader.com.
Common issues
Can't find the "Load unpacked" button?
Make sure Developer mode is turned on. The toggle should be blue.
Extension won't load?
Extract the ZIP first, then select the extracted folder that contains manifest.json.
The extension disappeared after a restart?
Chrome loads the extension from the extracted folder. If that folder was moved or deleted, extract the ZIP again to a folder you will keep and load it once more.
